The trigger for A. Giannas to make a further search for the galvanic isolation transformers and their potential use onboard during maintenance or other works, was given during a High Voltage seminar.
At the discussion on measures of increased safety, the isolation transformers were proposed as a means to preventing electrocution in case that accidentally a live wire is touched, as they provide galvanic isolation transferring power to a device used for example on the deck of an oil tanker through induction or capacitance.
