The ATHINA Training Center and MB TURBO launched their cooperation with the first seminar on the Basic Maintenance and Operation of 4-stroke diesel engines exhaust gas turbochargers. This seminar was being planned a long time ago, by establishing gradually the necessary facilities at ATHINA that MB TURBO generously fabricated and donated, and collecting cases and best practices from the Minerva Marine fleet vessels.
MB TURBO is a new company in the area of turbochargers’ inspection, overhauling and service, however its people and Technicians have a long history and experience trusted by Minerva Marine for its fleet vessels fitted with certain types of equipment.
The seminar on 27 July 2022 was delivered my M. Bostantzoglou and was attended by 15 Senior and Junior Engineer Officers of Minerva Marine. It started with the turbochargers’ basics on the design and operational parameters, the importance of proper balancing to prevent wear of bearings between the overhauling intervals, the effect of cleaning and washing to reduce fouling and most of the time was then allocated to practical dismantling, service and assembly at the workshops of ATHINA giving emphasis to the assessment of clearances, the mounting of thrust and other bearings, etc.
