Electrochlorination-Based Ballast Water Treatment Systems

The first, complete seminar on the design, process and components of the electrochlorination-based ballast water treatment systems was carried out on 13 and 14 January 2021. The aim was to assist the participating Deck and Engineer Officers understand the combination of filtration and electrolysis process during ballasting, the importance of TRO sensors in adjusting the dose of free chlorine to ballast tanks or in the neutralization during de-ballasting and the key components installed in the pump room, the engine room and other deck areas.

The hands-on practice took place in a unique BWTS Samsung Purimar BWTS Simulator donated by S & SYS of the Samsung Heavy Industries to the ATHINA MLDC and Minerva Marine.
