The first pilot seminar on Ice Navigation and Operation took place from 1 to 5 February 2021 with the aim to increase the awareness and skills of Deck Officers of Minerva Marine in handling ice-classed oil tankers under various conditions in cold environments and ice waters.
It was based on the IMO Model Course 7.11 which provides the framework of the Polar Code-compliant Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters. Useful conclusions came out from the conduct of this seminar and in particular from the simulation exercises run in the full-mission Ship Handling Simulator of the ATHINA MLDC.
